Choose Dress

So you’re planning your wedding and you need the perfect dress for your special day; there are so many designs to choose from, so making the right choice is sometimes difficult. Here are a few tips for choosing the perfect South African wedding dress.

Choose Your Budget

Your budget is probably the most important thing to remember, because this will determine the amount that you can pay towards your dress or the designer. Make sure that you plan for this well in advance, especially if you work with a designer, as there are a lot of time and effort that goes into designing a South African wedding dress. Also keep in mind that you might need to make changes or alterations to the dress as time goes by, so don’t wait until the last minute – know what your budget is and get planning!

Choose a Style

Browse through magazines and even visit websites that specialises in wedding dresses to get ideas on different styles that are available. You need to choose a style that you love, so that you will enjoy working on your dress and look forward to wearing it. Consider the venue and the time of the year, for e.g. winter or summer, and choose a style that will fit in perfectly with your wedding day.

Book Appointments Early

Once you have a good idea of the type of South African wedding dress you want, book appointments with designers or wedding shops in advance. Fit more than one dress and decide which one you want based on the level of comfort, the price, and the design. Don’t take the first dress you see, as you never know what else might be available. You can make your appointments on different days so that you have enough time to go through all the available South African wedding dresses.

Take Someone with You

When you go for your first dress fitting, take someone with you that has an open mind; someone that can give you honest advice and feedback. This can be your mother, or even a best friend or relative. You need to know what you look like when fitting a dress and what you can do to improve the design to fit you better. If you need to make alterations, make notes of these and give them to the designer.

Always Be Open-Minded

Try on a variety of different styles and colours to see what different dresses look like on your body. You might be surprised at the result; many brides ended up choosing a dress that they never thought they would, simply by trying it on and seeing how wonderful it complements their figure and body shape. Ask the designer for tips and advice when looking at various South African wedding dresses so that you explore all your options.

Never Rush Through It

When choosing a dress, never rush yourself through a fitting or choose something simply because a friend recommended it. Take your time and make your appointments well in advance so that you can carefully plan ahead. If you are not sure, make a second appointment and go for another fitting to be sure. You want to look great on your wedding day, so take your time when you choose a dress.

Always be Practical

Choose a dress that will fit in with the venue, the time of year, and your own personal style. If you want to wear a veil, wear it when you fit your dress to make sure it complements the entire design. Also take the shoes with you to a fitting to make sure that the dress will be comfortable in it. If you have your wedding during the winter, consider choosing wedding dresses with longer sleeves for the cold temperatures; alternatively if you will get married during the summer months, choose a lighter fabric for your dress.
