Question 3. How far in advance do I need to buy my wedding dress?

If possible it's best to allow 5 - 8 months before your wedding to order a gown. This will allow enough time for the construction, transport as well as alteration of your gown to ensure a perfect fit. Our lead times vary between 1 – 5 months, depending on stock availability at the supplier so we will try our best to accommodate you. The dresses on our On Sale & Pre-Loved page are available immediately.

Question 4. BRIDES BEWARE - How do I know if a boutique is an authorized retailer who sells authentic designer gowns and not copies or knock-off"s?

If the price of a designer wedding dress is significantly below the prices generally prevailing in the market, it is highly likely it is not a genuine product.  For your security, please visit the store locator on the supplier's websites page to find an authorized retailer. The number of counterfeit products in circulation is rising constantly. Counterfeit products are being offered on websites and in unauthorized retail locations. In some cases, suppliers from China claim they produce genuine designer products. These products, however, have proven to be counterfeit and have been the cause of great disappointment, dissatisfaction and regret.

Question 6. What is the difference between White, Ivory, Off White and Diamond White?

The colour of your wedding dress should be complementary to your features as well as your wedding theme and colour scheme. It is recommended that olive, tan or dark complexion brides should opt for stark white whereas ivory or diamond white is much more complementary for fairer or paler skin tones.

White is your purest, starkest shade of white throughout the colour spectrum.
Diamond white includes a minimal touch of ivory to it, giving it a slightly warmer more natural impression.
Ivory or Off White you’ll clearly notice a soft yellow undertone. Ivory generally portrays a vintage romantic feeling whereas white will leave you with a more modern look. Keep in mind that shades will vary from designer to designer.

Question 7. What should I bring to my appointment?

Bring pictures of dresses you’ve seen on our website, Pinterest, in magazines or that you’ve tried on elsewhere. Be sure to wear light colored underwear and perhaps a strapless bra to be able to get the best idea when fitting different necklines. Lastly relax, enjoy the fitting and leave the rest up to us :-)

Question 8. Who should I bring with to my appointment?

It is advised that you bring the person closest to you whose opinion you value like a sister, best friend or mother, who knows you well and with whom you want to share the experience of buying your wedding dress. Bringing too many can take the focus off of you and confuse you. If you wish to bring a large bridal party it is advised to do so during your second complementary fitting.

Question 9. What size sample wedding dresses are available at Bridal Manor?

Our samples vary between size 6 - 16, most sample sizes are 10's, 12's and 14's. We carry bigger and smaller sizes depending on the dress style, if you are unsure please contact us. Please note that these are only our studio samples and we can order any dress in a size that will suit you best.

Question 10. What is the difference between imported wedding dresses versus custom made wedding dresses?

Wedding dress boutiques who import offer you the service of fitting a carefully selected variety of sample gowns chosen from different international designers. If you find a dress perfect for you we’ll order the size dress for you closest to your measurements and colour preferences. Minor adjustments can be made to your dress and in-house alterations will be done to ensure your dress fits you perfectly. Importing your gown from an established boutique that is authorised to do so is a safe option as you know exactly what the end product, - style, fit and fabric-, will look like.

Custom made gowns on the other hand is hand made by South African designers or by international (often China) factories; in this case the bride provides inspiration and ideas of the dress she prefers where after the designer will then make the dress according to her specifications.

Question 11. Do you rent out your gowns?

We do not rent out our wedding dresses as we believe in selling excellent quality gowns. We do have a re-sell option available to all Bridal Manor brides.

Question 12. How does the re-sell or pre-loved option work

We do offer a re-sell option if you buy the dress from us and if it is still in a perfect condition and cleaned after the wedding. You're welcome to bring your dress back within 3 months of your wedding date and we will keep your dress in store up to 6 months and re-sell it on your behalf, you will receive the payment once the dress has been sold. This way you will receive 50% back of the original price which is a better option than renting a gown for 10 or 20% less than the original price, this will be discussed during your appointment.

Question 13. When should I buy my veil or headpiece?

Special-order designer veils have a 3-4 months lead-time, so making a decision at the time you order your gown is helpful. At your first alterations fitting, you can order a custom veil which we’ll make for you on premise or you are welcome to buy from our stock available in store. We offer a large variety of custom made veils to suit your specifications.

Question 14. How do I pay for my wedding dress?

We prefer EFT payments and accept credit card payments (MasterCard and Visa), as well as cash.

If you are ordering a gown, we require a 60% deposit at the time you order your gown. When the gown arrives at Bridal Manor, we’ll contact you to let you know and to schedule a fitting. At that point, we require payment of the remaining 40% balance. Alterations are due before collection of your gown.

If you are buying a sample gown, we require 100% payment and you must take the dress home with you that day.

Question 15. Do we allow children during our Bridal Fittings

We regret: due to the nature of fitting wedding dresses and the fact that we have more than one bride in store, no children under the age of 10 please.

Question 16. What happens if my dress arrives?

We will confirm the expected delivery date with you after order placement once the deposit was received. Once the dress has arrived and we are satisfied the gown is perfect, we’ll call you to schedule a first fitting and arrange final payment. If your wedding is more than 8 weeks away from the dress arrival date, Bridal Manor request that you collect your dress for safe keeping and return about 4-6 weeks before the wedding for further alterations.

Question 17. When shall I schedule my first alteration fitting?

We’ll contact you when your dress arrives to schedule a fitting; generally, that will be about 6 - 8 weeks before your wedding day. If your dress is with you, you should contact us 10 weeks prior to your wedding to schedule your alteration fitting.

Question 18. What should I bring to my first alteration fitting?

You should bring your shoes and underwear you will wear on your wedding day in order to have your gown properly fit. If you’ve already chosen your jewellery you are welcome to bring it along as well to ensure it compliments your dress. We also have jewelry and veils on site which you can choose from.

Question 21. Are alterations included in the purchase price?

Alterations are excluded from the wedding dress price, alterations on average vary between R200 - R2000. With regards to any additional haberdashery/detail that has to be added to your dress, Bridal Manor requests that the Bride supply us with the items on the first alteration fitting to ensure accuracy and complete client satisfaction.

Question 20. Can I come for my alteration fittings over the weekend?

Our alteration department are only available during the week between 8:30 – 16:00. It is recommended that you do your alterations in your hometown, as a few fittings may be necessary. If you prefer Bridal Manor to do your alterations please ensure that you are available for 3 to 5 fittings during the week in the 8 weeks before your wedding.

Question 19. How many fittings will I need during the alteration process?

Usually, brides require 3-5 fittings to ensure a perfect fit. After the final fitting if your gown is fully paid we will pack it for you in a wedding dress bag.
